| | What happened to the Polaroid 2? | | I saw an ad an upcoming new camera by Polaroid, not certain but think it's called the PoGo, and was wondering if it was launched? I know that the old polaroid film has been discontinued and that the company was in a financial bind, but I liked the camera with a mini built in printer with the options that come with a digital camera, so what happened? Does anyone know? | |

| | Did you start out with a Polaroid camera? Was it special to you? | | I put this discussion in Life because for some of us who are a bit older, getting our own Polaroid camera was a rite of passage...a step towards adulthood. When I got mine I thought I was a real big shot! I was going to be the next great photographer, with instant gratification at my figertips as I watched my creations appear before me. I went through packs of film taking pictures of everything and everyone for quite a long time in kid time. When I became a mom I gave my kids that same kind of camera...that is until my youngest, who is 8 years younger than her closest sibling, came along. By the time she was camera ready digital cameras were affordable and that's what she craved. Now, Polaroid is discontinuing it's instant film. I think I'm going to dig up my old camera and see if I can still find film for it. Or see if either of my older daughters still have theirs packed away somewhere. It may be old fashioned and outdated but I want my grandchildren to experience the awe of watching a photo they took magically appear while holding it in their hands. I don't care what anyone says, I think that's one of the coolest things in the world![em]thumbup[/em] | |
| | What do you think about Polaroid discontinuing the production of film? | | It's been news for a few months now, but Polaroid decided to stop their production of film for next year, due to the rise of digital technology and less of a need for film. Now I love Polaroid and find it to be the most fun film out there, so it will be quite a loss for me when I can no longer use my 1989 Polaroid impulse=( It's sad that a form of art has to be discontinued- though I do use and enjoy digital, my photography experiences will not be the same.
What do you think about all of this?

| | camera | | friends,
The people who are interested in photography use their own cameras, some people use flash cameras, some people use digital cameras, some people use mobile cameras, and some other people use polaroid camera. What camera do you use? which one do you like best?
| | Polaroid cameras a technology of the past! Digital takes over. | | I've forgotten about the Polaroid camera until I ran across an article in our Boston Globe online this morning. I know their film is still sold at a couple of stores in my area and whenever I noticed it I wondered why since most people use digital cameras today. What I didn't know was that Polaroid played a big part in helping our police departments. How can a digital picture be transmitted immediately from areas with poor cellphone and radio reception? Police could be 60 miles from a police statation and we have to take a picture of a car accident or a farm accident or a gunshot wound, and you're a good distance from a computer hookup."In a shooting involving a death with polaroids the medical examiner slips the picture into an envelope along with the corpse. But with Polaroid's announcement this month that it is halting production of instant film. Now thousands of police forces are forced to hunt for alternatives.
Polaroid sold thousands of cameras to police organizations during its heyday; a Massachusetts company had a separate business unit devoted to law enforcement photography.
Polaroid also makes large film sheets for giant cameras used by portrait and landscape...

| What is Polaroid photography? | | Poloraid photography involves a process in which the processing of the exposed film takes place inside the camera and the print is ready in just a minute.. The photography process is based on a diffusion-transfer process, which makes it possible to produce a film negative and positive print in one stage.... | |
